Ohio private schools don't have to follow the new student cell phone ban. Some are anyway

Ohio just passed a ban on cell phones in public schools, but private schools aren't required to follow suit.

Ohio's new law requires public school districts, charter schools and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics schools to ban students' use of cell phones in schools by Jan. 1, 2026. There are some exceptions for emergencies and medical conditions.

The law doesn't apply to Ohio's private schools, but some have already restricted cell phone use.

Cincinnati Country Day School in Indian Hill requires students to give up their cell phones for the entire school day. Students told The Enquirer in 2024 that they liked the change.
