No phones? More recess? How Shapiro aims to change the Pa. school day

The amount of posting, texting and scrolling at Pennsylvania’s grade schools might soon take a nosedive, if Gov. Josh Shapiro has his way.

On Feb. 3, during his yearly budget address to state lawmakers, the Democratic governor called on the commonwealth’s lawmakers to pass a bill that would ban phones while children are in school, an idea that has been gaining momentum in many communities.
