New law could ban smartphones in parts of the US: Which students will be affected by the Michigan smartphone ban.
Under House Bill 4141, K-12 public schools across the state will be required to ban smartphones during classroom instruction, as per The Sun report. The change is aimed at improving students' concentration, strengthening in-person connection, and addressing growing concerns around mental health.
Why flip phones are exempt under the new law
The rule won't apply to all mobile devices, though. Flip phones are exempt, meaning students will still be allowed to carry basic phones that don't offer social media, apps, or constant notifications.
