Cell phones could be banned from Connecticut classrooms beginning next school year

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — A ban on cell phones in Connecticut classrooms is one step closer to becoming a state mandate.

A bipartisan vote in the Connecticut House of Representatives on Monday approved a measure that would require state school districts to implement “bell to bell” ban on cellphones.

Gov. Lamont, lawmakers want to keep phones out of Connecticut classrooms

Gov. Ned Lamont introduced the concept for the legislation earlier this year. He has supported local policies requiring phones to be put away during school hours, typically in lockable pouches.

If the State Senate approves the measure before the session ends May 6, pouches are among the options school districts would have to adhere to.
