SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — As public and charter schools across Missouri prepare to enforce a new statewide bell-to-bell personal electronic device ban this school year, Springfield Public Schools (SPS) is already entering its second year under the policy.
Under Missouri Senate Bill 68, signed into law in July 2025 by Governor Mike Kehoe, all public and charter school districts in the state are required to prohibit students from using or visibly displaying personal electronic communication devices from the start to the end of the school day.
While the mandate is a new adjustment for many Missouri districts this fall, SPS administrators implemented and enforced the exact same expectations a year early during the 2025–2026 academic year.
