Technology in our classrooms: Where does Mass. stand, and what could be next

Technology is a staple in many classrooms but it's also an especially controversial topic here in Massachusetts, where state lawmakers could soon vote to take phones out of students hands from the moment the first bell rings until the end of the day.

Nearly half of U.S. public schools provide students with laptops, according to federal data; 86% of teachers use them, and more than half use apps daily.

The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education says, "It's important for students to learn digital literacy and computer science skills in order to be prepared for college and a career."
