NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — A new Tennessee law banning student cell phone use during instructional time is now in effect across the state. For Principal Myra Taylor, this policy is nothing new.

At her school, students have already spent the last three years locking away their phones for the entire school day.

“Our students bag up their phones at the beginning of the day, and they don’t get access to them again until dismissal,” says Principal Taylor.

The system involves special locking pouches that students place their phones into each morning. Once sealed, the bags can only be unlocked with a magnetic device held by school staff.
