
As an increasing number of parents and young people shun smartphones, more than half of states across the country have imposed restrictions on cellphones in schools.
But just two states have policies that meet the gold standard for keeping schools phone-free, according to an analysis of laws in all 50 states and Washington, DC produced by the Becca Schmill Foundation, the Institute for Families and Technology, Smartphone-Free Childhood US, and Jonathan Haidt’s The Anxious Generation.
Only North Dakota and Rhode Island received top marks in the report's scoring system for requiring that students keep their personal electronic devices in inaccessible locations throughout the entire school day, known as a bell-to-bell policy.
