NYS says school cell phone ban had a successful rollout, local district reacts

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (WENY) — New York State officials say the statewide bell-to-bell cellphone ban has been a success so far. Officials from one local school district say the state’s numbers accurately reflect what’s happening in and out of the classroom.

The Governor’s Office said it received over 350 responses to a statewide survey about the cell phone ban. According to the state, 92% reported a smooth transition to the new policy. In addition, 83% of schools surveyed reported better student engagement, and 75% said teachers can now teach more effectively.
